There are two main paths that the career of a child actor can take. For many, that initial taste of fame is all they ever get, as they grow up to pursue completely different careers in life.
A good example of this is Danny Lloyd, who played the character Danny Torrance in Stanley Kubrick’s cult classic horror, The Shining. After just a few roles in his budding professional life, the youngster grew tired of auditions and decided to quit acting for a regular job.
The same pattern occurred with Sleepless in Seattle child star Ross Malinger, who decided to pursue business interests instead of continuing in Hollywood.
On the other hand, there is a long list of actors who avoided the pitfalls that come with breaking into Hollywood at such a young age. Today, they are very successful stars in the industry. Ryan Gosling, Hillary Duff and Keke Palmer are a few examples who started out really young but are still going strong to date.
A third – less traveled – route is the one that Jerry Maguire’s Jonathan Lipnicki took. After seemingly falling off the map for a while, the actor has since returned to the screen. Here are his most recent roles.
9 Altitude (2017)
In 2017, Jonathan Lipnicki played a leading role in the action crime thriller Altitude by director Alex Merkin. His character was called Rick, and he was joined in the cast by Denise Richards and Rocky star Dolph Lundgren.
Altitude tells the story of an FBI agent helping a thief to escape from a hijacked plane.
8 Circus Kane (2017)
2017 was a busy year for Jonathan Lipnicki, as he also starred in the horror film Circus Kane. The movie is about “a reclusive circus master [who] invites popular social media stars to his house of haunts. Anyone who can stay without being scared off will earn $250,000, but the dangers may be more real than they first assumed.”
Lipnicki featured in Circus Kane as a character known as Scott.
7 Mr. Student Body President (2017-2018)
Still in the same year, Jonathan Lipnicki started appearing as Corey Cusimano in the comedy series Mr. Student Body President by New Form on YouTube.
The series lasted four seasons of ten episodes each. Lipnicki featured in a total of nine episodes in Season 2.
6 The Resident (2019)
Jonathan Lipnicki’s career comeback continued in 2019, when he made a cameo in an episode of the Fox medical drama The Resident, which also streams on Hulu. The particular episode he featured in was titled Belief System, and was the fourth of the series’ Season 3.
Lipnicki’s character in The Resident was called Remy Necco.
5 2nd Chance For Christmas (2019)
Jonathan Lipnicki as Cory in the fantasy drama 2nd Chance For Christmas was not as central a role as he had enjoyed in previous films, but it was significant nonetheless.
The movie told the story of Chance Love, “a popular, young singer [who] does not like Christmas [being] visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.”
4 Roomies (2020)
In 2020, Jonathan Lipnicki featured in yet another YouTube series. This time he played the part of Chester in Roomies, a short-episode sitcom written and also starring his close friend, Sam Myerson.
Lipnicki went on to appear in two of the show’s three episodes.
3 Broil (2020)
Another production featuring Jonathan Lipnicki in 2020 was the horror film Broil, written by Piper Mars and Edward Drake and directed by the latter. According to IMDb, the movie “follows a dysfunctional family vying to control the future of their wealth.”
One of the main characters in the film was “Sydney ‘The Chef’ Lawson,” the part which Lipnicki played.
2 Pooling To Paradise (2021)
Jonathan Lipnicki portrayed the supporting character Sean in Roxy Shih’s Pooling to Paradise. The romantic comedy drama film was released in 2021, and also starred the likes of Lynn Chen, Bradley White and Jordan Carlos.
Lipnicki has since starred in a few short films, but Pooling to Paradise was his last appearance in a dramatic role in a feature film or TV show.
1 Jonathan Lipnicki’s Upcoming Projects
There are two main projects featuring Jonathan Lipnicki that are currently in various stages of development. The first is a comedy film titled The Re-Education of Molly Singer. The movie will star Britt Robertson, Jaime Pressly, Wendie Malick and Lipnicki himself as Sully.
The actor will also feature as Jasper Meadows in yet another horror movie, titled Camp Pleasant Lake. This project is written and directed by Thomas Walton, and is due for release in 2023.
